In an email, you may be sent an attachment that can be an image, sound document, mp3, pdf, a zip file and much more. This may sound logical, but tapping on it doesn’t actually save it to your device. Instead, a preview is opened with which you can interact but once you hit the back, it is gone.

How to attach a file in Gmail on an Android smartphone or tablet
The first step
Open the Gmail app on your phone. It may be in a folder on the home screen called ‘Google’ but you can find it in your app menu otherwise.
Step two
Find the email in the email you want to download and open it by tapping on it. Attachments are shown with a paperclip icon but this is sometimes an email signature.
Step three
Scroll to the bottom of the page and you’ll see attachments. Either tap the down arrow to save to your device or click on the triangular icon to save to your Google Drive.
Note: If the attachment is in a long thread of email, you may need to open the attached email before showing it. Try scrolling down first though.
