You no longer need to switch back and forth between Windows if you need a specific app pinned for quick reference! Microsoft’s open-source tool PowerToys Run is getting a new update that enables support for a number of new features, including “always on top” in both Windows 11 and Windows 10.
As the name suggests, PowerToys’ new feature lets you always have an application window at the top of the desktop, even when you open another app.
This is especially helpful when you have multiple app windows open. And you want to always have a specific window at the top for quick access or reference. Windows Calculator is one of the few apps that have built-in support for “Always On Top”. And the same feature is now available for all apps via PowerToys.
But it only works when PowerToys is running in the background. Because PowerToys is not built into the operating system. Users must allow the app to run in the background and at startup. In our tests, we noticed that PowerToys Always On Top tool works very well.
If you want to customize the visual outline, go to PowerToys settings. In the settings, you can customize the outline of the app window. And use a different color or turn off the outline completely.
You can disable “always on top” when you are playing games or Windows game mode is enabled. The PowerToys Advanced Settings page. Even lets you exclude some apps from this new multitasking feature.
If you want to exit PowerToys Always On Top, close the app window or use the keyboard shortcuts highlighted above.

Search features like PowerToys’ macOS spotlight PowerPoy Toys Run are finally getting support for web search. At the moment, PowerToys Run is limited to local search results. But it has been updated with support for web search. PowerToys Run is faster than Windows Search and is capable of performing web searches accurately. If you just want to use PowerToys Run’s web engine feature then just use it ?? Your search query filter.
When are you In search queries, PowerToys will only show results from the web without sacrificing functionality.
